Mint & matching 7.92mm!

The Zastava M48 (also called Yugo K98k) was a Yugoslav clone of the German built Kar98k which was initially manufactured by the Yugoslav Partisans at Kragujevac, Serbia, the current location of Zastava Arms & retained the original 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge (which were available in the millions).

Soon after World War 2 ended when the newly formed Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was trying to re-arm its military forces they faced a problem whereby the Yugoslav government had a distinct lack of funds. The new post war socialist government agreed to put aside some of the claims against the Germans for damages, instead receiving from the Western Allies captured parts, incomplete rifles, captured rifles & machinery still intact for production of Mauser arms.

Yugoslavia had been a country that already was a producer of Mauser rifles prior to WW2 so skilled workers existed already. Yugo Mausers were noted for their reliability, great accuracy, effective range & would not require a new mass production plant – thanks to the fact that all the components of the rifles were already available.

As these rifles are Karabiner 98k clones with very little difference between a Nazi German K98k & a Zastava M98/48 which consists of the markings & most obviously the top wood & lack of bolt indent. If you squint, they are virtually identical to each other, since they are still the same rifles at their core.

Correctly, the Yugoslav Crest is visible on the receiver ring. “Preduzece 44” stands for “Institute 44”-Kragujevac, Serbia & is present on the left side of the receiver, Preduzece 44.

This rifle is an excellent example of a Zastava M.48A which was manufactured entirely by the Yugoslavs with a great bore & would make an excellent addition to your Mauser collection or be the start on one.

Do your own research & you will know if this is for you. Please view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. The rifle itself is in excellent condition & has been stored correctly for who knows how long so anything that looks like something nasty is just cosmoline. Ask for more if desired.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you decide to send it back.
