ALL PROVIDERS BELOW CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF 10618NAT Course in Firearms Safety (Approved for Licensing in Queensland).
These Providers span the length of the Sunshine Coast so choose the one that is best suited for you to book your Safety Course as the first step to becoming a Firearms License Holder. The Courses are standardised to meet the requirement in Queensland under the Weapons Act 1990 that licence applicants complete a course approved by the Commissioner of Police in firearms/weapons safety training. Categories of training provided usually include A, B, C, D and H depending on which Provider you choose.
The courses are mostly one day in duration and usually held on a weekend. They are designed to prepare applicants with the knowledge and applied skills to possess and use firearms lawfully, responsibly and safely. This Safety Course is a requirement to be eligible to apply for a Qld Weapons Firearms licence based on the genuine needs of the individual. ‘Genuine Need’ is a requirement you need to nominate in your application to obtain a Firearms License and is determined by what you actually want your license for, i.e. target shooting at the range or hunting as an example.
Most people usually choose the Category A and Category B Course which covers Air Rifles, Rimfire Rifles, Centrefire Rifles and Shotguns which you would use for target shooting and/or hunting.
If you want to shoot Handguns, you will need to complete the Category H component of a Safety Course which most Providers can do on the same day.
