Description

Offered for sale from an Australian collection this Turkish Model 1938 Mauser rifle.

The Model 1938 is pretty much the final version on the lineage of this rifle which was based on the German Gewehr 98 infantry rifle.

Many on the collector market in Australia were converted from earlier German made rifles & the remainder were manufactured by one of several Turkish Arms factories, as this example was.

These have been overlooked until recently by many collectors as they have often been seen as ‘on the spectrum’ of Mauser collectables, because although they were seen as Mauser rifles (many were made for the Turks by Mauser) they were just not as well known but are now becoming more desirable. This is mainly because Turkey was officially neutral during WW2, meaning these were not carried in combat by a belligerent of WW2.  Although neutral, the Turks were courted by both the Axis & the Allies during the war. Turkey staunchly maintained her neutrality to the end of the war but was (like the Spanish & Portuguese) a little more neutral towards some sides than others, giving haven to Germans escaping the Soviet juggernaut in Bulgaria & Romania in 1944 & from the British & Americans in Greece in 1944-45.

This rifle is in very good condition for its age as can be seen in the photos. The bore has excellent rifling & no visible pitting or other nastiness. Many numbers match but not all & not unusually, the bolt is not matching although most other parts appear to be. There are numerous Turkish crescent acceptance stamps, along with other various Turkish military markings.

Do your own research & you will know if this is for you. Please view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you send it back.

Being sold on consignment, call for shipping cost to your dealer.
