Description

In excellent but combat carried condition, this is a very desirable example of a hard to find 1943 production Sauer & Sohn K98k Mauser German WW2 service rifle.  Numbers on the bolt, receiver, barrel bands, rear sight, bolt stop/ejector, trigger guard, butt plate & floor plate are either 6065 or 6005. This Karabiner 98k (K98) was made by the Sauer & Sohn, Suhl factory as identified by CE being stamped on the receiver ring & 43 identifies the year. This region was known as Waffenstadt Suhl as J.P. Sauer & Sohn is the oldest recorded gun maker in Germany.

It is covered in Waffenamts & eagle firing proof in all the right places. It displays the standard Waffenamt proofs & single firing proof on the barrel & receiver, with “Mod. 98” in Gothic Script marked on the receiver wall. The top rear section of the barrel is stamped with ‘fxo av’. It has the correct solid pattern milled front barrel band with the milled lower band, trigger guard & floor plate. The rifle is fitted with the standard laminated stock & barrel hand guard which is quite dark as most CE’s we have seen are & is in original, unmolested condition.

Whilst you may not call it a museum grade example, it is definitely a good example of a collector grade mid war rifle from the most desirable of makers. CE43 coded K98’s have always been hard to find. All K98’s have become very desirable & they are getting harder & harder to find. Bore is dark but rifling can be seen so we would rate this as more of a collector than a shooter.
