Description

This rifle has got everything. All matching numbers with original cleaning rod, sight hood & sling!

Recently imported from the US & offered for sale is this very nice later war K98k made by Waffenwerke Brünn in Brno, one of Germany’s ‘conquest’ firearms manufactures in Czechoslovakia.

This rifle has all the hallmarks of being a war trophy, having been taken home after the war by a US GI.

All visible matching numbers include barrel, receiver, complete bolt, both front barrel bands with the floor plate & rear sight being un-numbered. Only the front barrel band has been replaced which explains the ‘H’ band instead of the stamped welded band but is correctly numbered.

In 1941 the Waffenwerke Brünn production code changed from “945” to a script “dot”. The top of the receiver ring is marked ‘dot’ over 1944, the right side is marked with Waffenamt proofs which were the acceptance codes for Waffenwerke Brünn & the left side is marked with the Nazi firing proof (Nazi Eagle or ‘Reich Adler’) & the serial number with Mod. 98.

It looks all correct including the laminate stock with the correct cupped butt plate, stamped & welded barrel band (other than the front band), floorplate & winter trigger guard plus it retains the original cleaning rod, front sight hood & original leather sling!

This is a very good example of a later war K98k rifle made before the Germans began to introduce changes to production techniques to save time, materials & money which resulted in what is known as the Kriegsmodell.

It presents as all original as can be seen in the photos. The wood is very good with minimal marks & it has a good amount of the original blue still present as can be seen in the photos.

The bore is excellent, shiny with lots of rifling clearly visible, so definitely a shooter! The muzzle will not accept a PPU ‘8mm Mauser’ round, as per photo demonstrating the barrel is still tight & is not worn but of course it will still take a 8×57 round in the chamber.

Do your own research & you will see that this great example of a hard to find matching Kar98k would make an excellent addition to any serious Mauser collection or a great start to one.

Condition is better than appears in the photos.
