All complete & mint!
In original & complete condition, this rifle was made by RSAF Sparkbrook in 1891 & is considered the Grandfather of the famous family of Lee Enfield rifles.
These were the first to use the new .303 calibre ‘smokeless powder’ & this rifle has an excellent bore so can still be fired using low power hand loads.
The War Office divided production of the MLE Mk1* between RSAF Enfield, BSA, LSA & RSAF Sparkbrook with only 63,072 being made by Sparkbrook as recorded on page 73 of Ian Skennerton’s bible ‘The Lee Enfield.’
Taking into account the attrition rate from all of the variables, not many of these exist today & even fewer in pristine & original condition with all parts remaining with the rifle.
129 years after it was made, this rifle retains the dust cover, piling hook, volley sights, stock disc, original 8 shot magazine & cleaning rod. Not surprisingly, the bolt does not match the rifle.
Comes with correct bayonet & scabbard although the scabbard tip has perished & it has broken off as can be seen in the photos. This can likely be repaired by a skilled person.
No serious .303 collection is complete without one of these & they rarely come on the collector market, especially in this condition!
