Description
This Colt 1911 A1 was manufactured in early 1943 & has a low relatively 6-digit serial number which matches across the gun.
It has the correct G.H.D. ordnance mark stamped below the slide stop which is for Brig. General Guy H. Drewry who was the US Army Inspector of Ordnance, Springfield Ordnance District from June 17 1942 to July 15 1945. It also has the correct “P” proof mark just below the mag release button which matches “P” on top of slide & showing to be all correct for this gun. Also visible is the Ordnance mark behind right grip to the right of the hammer pin.
All markings appear correct. The gun was originally made with the blued finish as was normal until late 1943 & has been re-blued at some stage of its life. This was an excellent job & quite likely not long after its military life as there is no pitting or damage of any kind beneath the refinished blue & all markings are clear & easily visible. Grips are correct checkered Type 10 Keyes Fiber grips & they are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
