WW2 USGI War Trophy With Full Provenance!
Captured in Okinawa & recently imported from the US & offered for sale is this Imperial Japanese Arisaka Type 99 chambered in 7.7mm with AA sights & the MUM still intact!
Imperial Japanese rifles with the MUM are often agreed to be captured, not surrendered because all surrendered Japanese rifles had the The Emperor’s Chrysanthemum (MUM) either ground, scrubbed or somehow defaced at the time of the Japanese surrender.
Uniquely we can trace the full history of this rifle from when it was captured near the Machinato airstrip during the battle for Okinawa in April 1945 by PFC (later S/Sgt) Pete STRANG, USMC (see photo of statement of provenance).
We as collectors are told to buy the gun & not the story but this is worth taking notice of.
This unique rifle is marked as being a Series 22 made by the Kokura arsenal & as can be seen in the photos, it presents in absolutely outstanding overall condition as can be seen in the photos, plus it retains the original cleaning rod & AA sights.
Bore is excellent, shiny with clear visible rifling so definitely a shooter & we have ammunition at the shop if collected.
To find a Type 99 with a confirmed history is highly unusual, let alone one from a low production factory with the MUM intact & in this magnificent condition.
This is one for the serious collector who knows what they want & don’t come along often so don’t let this get away!
