If you’ve always wanted a big game double rifle, either side by side or over/under, this may be the one for you!
In 1984-85 Winchester produced a line of double rifles, rifle/shotguns based on their 101 over & under shotgun. They were called the Grand European Double Express Rifle or Combo.
These high quality Over-Under double rifles have 23.5″ blued round rifle barrels fitted with extractors & this example is chambered for the legendary 30-06 cartridge, presumably for bigger game.
Being a hunting rifle, these come with a sling loop soldered to the bottom barrel but the swivels have never been fitted & come in the original Winchester case. On top of quarter rib towards the breech, between the front scope mount base & rear sight is engraved “Grand European” in script inside an oval. A Leupold VARI-X 3-9 Compact rifle scope is mounted to the barrels by EAW pivot mounts which remain in the case, having never been fitted we believe.
The satin coin finished boxlock action features a scored & border engraved automatic slide safety that has “S” in front on top of the receiver tang. A single mechanical trigger with trigger shoe installed that is protected by a lightly scroll engraved trigger guard. The satin coin finished action is engraved with game scenes supported by English Arabesque scrolls. The right side of the action body features a portrait of a red stag while the left Side has a running boar. The underside of the action body has “Grand European” in script inside an oval & a portrait of a bighorn ram ahead of the scroll engraved trigger guard.
The woodwork is high gloss reddish-brown nicely feather-crotch figured best quality walnut with the Winchester style pistol grip with engraved steel grip cap, point pattern checkering with borders.
The beautiful Monte-Carlo stock has a cheek piece with comb & stud for sling on toe line, again, never fitted.
The finger-grooved forend is similarly checkered with Deeley style lever release.
LOP is 13-7/8″ & it retains the original Winchester red rubber recoil pad.
These do not come along often in Australia, especially unfired with the case, mounts & period correct Leupold scope which is clear.
We are not going to try & rate the condition out of 100 as everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the percentages should be, so we’ll let the pictures be the description. You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.
