Vintage American-made!

Offered for sale is this nice vintage American-made, all-original & lightly used Springfield Arsenal M6 Survival Weapon that is a direct copy of the U.S. Military’s M6 Aircrew Survival Weapon used from 1952 to the early 1970’s.  The original U.S. Military version was chambered in .22 Hornet over .410 & had 14″ barrels.  They were intended as a last ditch type weapon for air crewman who had been shot down or crashed to defend themselves & forage for food.  The Springfield Arsenal company decided to create a commercial version of the weapon for sale in 1982 & this was the result.  It has a parkerized finish &  is chambered in .22 WMR & .410 gauge.  The barrels are 18″ long to conform to the US 1968 Firearms Act & it is a break-action design that folds in half.  The selector for firing the barrels is located on the hammer & the rear sight is a 2-position unit with one position labeled for the rifle & one position labeled for the .410 shotgun barrel.  As per the original, the stock has a compartment on the top of the comb that opens up for storage of 15 rounds of .22 ammo & 4 x .410 shotshells.

From 1982 to 1994 these weapons were made in the U.S. as this one was & from 1995 until they were discontinued in 2004 they were made by CZ in the Czech Republic.

This particular example is a very early example actually made by Springfield in the U.S.A. & most closely resembles the original.  It is in excellent condition overall & has perfect bores in both barrels.  The Parkerizing still has a great look to it & there are only a few spots showing handling/storage marks.  All of the controls & functions on this M6 work 100% like the day it left the factory.

This M6 would be a great addition to any U.S. military collection as a representative piece of the M6 Aircrew Survival Weapon, as the originals are next to impossible to own.

The M6 has a rifle barrel mounted above a .410 shotgun barrel & its upper rifle barrel is chambered for .22 Magnum, which is known as a superposed “over-under” design.  These come with basic fundamental iron sights which can be flipped to an aperture sight or simple ‘V’ notch in line with its intended use as a last resort survival gun for downed aircrew.

One other unique feature of the M6 is the “squeeze-bar trigger.” Intended for use by aircrew who might be downed in any type of weather & terrain, the trigger, hammer & barrel latch are designed to be easily operated while wearing heavy gloves or mittens.

The parkerized finish is consistent with its intended use, so very basic with a nice patina.

In the US, these are selling for in excess of USD$600 making this very good value.

These are highly valued in collectors circles & this is would make an excellent addition to your military rifle collection.
