Description

Offered for sale from a collection is this very desirable unit marked Luger which is quite unusual as it is known that only around 10% were marked this way in WW1. With trench raids being used to acquire intelligence on the opposing army, the Germans ceased this practice as it was an easy giveaway of the ID of the Unit to the enemy.
Manufactured in 1917 by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) as indicated by the markings on the chamber ring & toggle this is a great example, made unique by the unit markings & condition.
Lugers were highly valued as souvenirs by the Allied troops & are sought after by collectors around the world. Many were taken home after the war & this example has been in the family of an Australian collector who believes it was sneaked home by great grandad returning from WW1.
As can be seen in the photos, it comes with its original holster which is in great condition (marked Berlin 1917) & fully functioning plus, unusually, it retains the loading/disassembly tool & comes with 2 x period correct magazines!
The unit mark indicates this pistol belonged to the Commanding Officer, as it is marked R1. According to German practice at the time, R1 means it was the first gun on the rack & was traditionally issued to the CO. How cool?! Unfortunately, we haven’t determined which unit it comes from but this would be a great research project for the new owner.
These rarely come onto the collector market here in Australia so this is your chance to own an iconic Luger!
We use a DSLR camera which picks up any imperfection so we must say this gun is in better condition than may appear in some photos with a large portion of the original blueing still prevalent, even the straw bluing.
Do your own research & you will see that this great example of probably the most iconic pistol of the 20th Century would make an excellent addition to any serious collection or a damn great start to one!

Please view them carefully as they form the main description & override all written information.

Make your decision based on what you see & be the lucky one who adds this outstanding pistol to their collection.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & these are sold on an as is basis.

As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.
