Description

No.4 Mk I’s were made by several factories during World War 2. The bulk of these were from the Royal Ordinance factory Maltby, ROF Fazakerley & BSA Shirley, with smaller quantities at Long Branch in Toronto Canada & by the Stevens-Savage company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, USA.

This US manufactured Savage is marked US PROPERTY & correctly has the ‘Flaming Bomb’ US Army acceptance stamped on the receiver.

This example is dated early 1942 as it is a MkI*, not Mk I & these were only made in North America for Britain & the Commonwealth Forces such as Australia & New Zealand although Aussie forces never used these in WW2.

It has the square S in all the right places including the magazine, meaning it is all original & has not been made up from parts from other manufacturers as can often be the case. The butt plate is alloy which is also correct. Overall it is in good original condition as can be seen in the photos. The bolt is not matching which is not unusual.

This a good honest example of a US made WW2 No. 4 for your collection. Comes with correct ‘pig sticker’ bayonet marked No. 4 Mk II.

Please view all of the photos carefully as they form the main description & override all others so feel free to ask for more as we have taken plenty.
