UNIQUE DEER RIFLE FOR SURE!

Musgrave hunting rifles were manufactured in South Africa from the mid 1950’s to early 1990’s as custom hunting rifles for big game hunters in SA.

The Musgrave Model K98 is part of a series of sporting rifles built on surplus Mauser K98 controlled-feed bolt actions which were in SA after WW2.  Additionally, Musgrave still offers some updated 98 models that share the action with Mauser M98 Standard but were manufactured new.

The models using 98 actions are offered in various configurations, from standard to magnum & big bore calibers. Some older versions such as this example also come equipped with sights on the new barrels, but the majority of newer variants using the 98 actions do not have pre-installed iron sights.

Like the newer models, this rifle is fitted with an adjustable Timney trigger.

The Musgrave company was founded in 1950 by Benjamin Musgrave who was a respected large-caliber target shooter in the 1930s. In 1933, he started testing & improving the accuracy of his Lee Enfield rifle, drawing the attention of other target shooters in South Africa. This attracted so much demand from South African target shooters from 1933 to 1950 that he eventually needed help managing the workload, so he had to bring in his sons to help.

The company finally was sold in the 1990’s but is still in operation, delivering some beautiful rifles.

This is a Field model & currently has a new price of around $3,200 (plus additional import fees & charges).

This actual rifle started it’s life as a Nazi era Mauser Kar98k made by Steyr-Daimler-Puch, Steyr between 1939-44.

This is evidenced by the remnants of numerous acceptance stamps ‘WaA77’ (see photos) visible plus the eagle with the outstretched wings (Reichs Adler nitro proof or ‘dirty bird’ as it’s sometimes known) & ‘Mod 98’.

After completely refurbishing the actions, new barrels are fitted along with a quality Turkish Walnut & uniquely patented Musgrave Monte Carlo stock design with beautiful checkering which helps eliminate muzzle jump & reduce felt recoil.

This rifle would be an excellent choice if you wanted a deer rifle with a bit of unique history.

It comes mounted with a crystal clear, Japanese made Tasco Wide Angle 4×40 scope on quality Tasco mount/rings so all ready to hunt.

Being a big game rifle, this has seen very little use (as can be seen in the photos) & we purchased it from the original South African owner who advised it has been a safe queen since arriving from SA a decade ago & was taken out just once before he emigrated here.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

We think we have described it accurately but please make your decision based on the photos as these form the main description & override all other.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you decide to send it back.

Standard shipping is $77 for all for metro shipping bar WA, otherwise call for a cost to your dealer.
