Description

Pre-1900 so no license required!

Recently acquired from a private collection in the US & offered for the first time in Australia is this nice example of the legendary Colt 1851, otherwise known as the Colt Navy.

Colt records show that this all matching numbered (other than the wedge) revolver was made in 1857 & it is said to have seen service during the US Civil War with the Union.

This was purchased from a private collector in the US who had a family connection as it is said to have belonged to a member who served in the Union Army. We are always told to buy the gun & not the story so whatever its history (if only it could talk), it remains in pretty good overall condition for a 164 year old gun & is mostly numbers matching, which is a feat in of itself.

The timing is good & it all appears to works as it should. The lockup is still reasonably tight, it indexes correctly & the half cock works well, as does the full cock. The bore still show rifling & is in similar condition as the rest of the gun. There is some pitting around 2” from the cylinder as can be seen in the photos & the grips have clearly been replaced at some stage which is not unusual.

The overall condition can be seen in the photos so please view the photos carefully as they form the main description & override all written information. Make your decision based on what you see.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & these are sold on an as is basis.

This is your chance to own a highly collectable & desirable original Colt Navy at a very reasonable price.

As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting, should you wish to do so.
