Description

Matching numbers & in original condition.

Offered for sale is this excellent example of a highly collectable & famous ‘Jungle Carbine’ in mint condition with fully matching numbers!

This would have to be the best example we have had in the shop or seen personally.

No doubt it was issued for service but looking at it, it has not seen much, if any use. There are a couple of storage marks on the stock as you would expect, but all metal work is immaculate.

The Rifle No. 5 Mk I was a derivative of the British Lee–Enfield No. 4 Mk I, designed in response to a requirement for a shorter, lighter, rifle for airborne forces in Europe. Although it was used by airborne troops in ETO in the latter stages of WW2 these have become known in collector circles as the ‘Jungle Carbine’ as most of its operational use was in post-war colonial campaigns such as the Malayan emergency which is where it gained its common nickname of the “Jungle Carbine” & was popular with troops because of its light weight (compared to the SMLE & Lee–Enfield No. 4 Mk I rifles then in service) & general ease of use.

This example was manufactured by the Fazakerley factory late in 1945 so did not see use in WW2 but was perhaps issued to troops serving in Malaya.

This would make a fine addition to your Enfield collection or the the start of one, beginning with one of the hardest to source.

These don’t come along very often in this genuine, unrestored condition & still with matching numbers.

The original 8” fullered Bowie blade bayonet pictured does not come with the rifle at this price but is available for $500 including scabbard & frog. The bayonet is not marked as far as we can see & the blade is unsharpened.

You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.
