Mostly matching including complete bolt!

Recently imported from the US & offered for sale is this very nice mid war K98k made by Waffenwerke Brünn in Bystrica, one of Germany’s ‘conquest’ firearms manufactures in Czechoslovakia.

This rifle has all the hallmarks of being a war trophy, having been taken home after the war by a US GI.

Visible matching numbers include barrel, receiver, complete bolt, floor plate & rear sight. Only the front barrel band has been replaced which explains the ‘H’ band instead of the stamped welded band.

In 1941 the Waffenwerke Brünn production code changed from “945” to a script “dou”. The top of the receiver ring is marked ‘dou’ over 44, the right side is marked with Waffenamt proofs which were the acceptance codes for Waffenwerke Brünn & the left side is marked with the Nazi firing proof (Nazi Eagle or ‘Reich Adler’) & the serial number.

It looks all correct including the laminate stock with the correct cupped butt plate, stamped & welded barrel band (other than the front band) floorplate & trigger guard.

This is a very good example of a later war K98k rifle made before the Germans began to introduce changes to production techniques to save time, materials & money which resulted in what is known as the Kriegsmodell.

It presents as all original as can be seen in the photos. The wood is very good with minimal marks although the laminate stock has hairline cracks on the stock, which can be seen in the photos. These are on the laminate line so are easily repaired & would leave no visible marks after being done. It has plenty of the original blue still present as can be seen in the photos.

The bore is excellent, shiny with lots of rifling clearly visible, so definitely a shooter! The muzzle will not accept a PPU ‘8mm Mauser’ round, as per photo demonstrating the barrel is still tight & is not worn.

Do your own research & you will see that this great example of a hard to find bolt matching Kar98k would make an excellent addition to any serious Mauser collection or a great start to one.

Condition is better than appears in the photos.
