Description

Mint condition & one for the serious Colt collector who knows what this is.

The Colt Army Special came to market in 1908 & was built on the double action frame that Colt introduced in the early 1890’s for the New Army revolver. The Army Special was only produced for about 20 years until 1927 when it was modified slightly & renamed the Official Police, as it was adopted by many police & law enforcement departments. This example was built in 1922 according to Colt records, making this 98 years old believe it or not!

The almost luxurious finish was applied to these revolvers during the interwar years & the lovely polished satin blue finish with case hardened trigger & hammer were soon replaced with a dull blued finish.

The Army Special was offered in several calibres for Law Enforcement mainly 32-20, 38 SPL & then in very limited numbers in .41 Colt, which is what this one is.

Along with being in a hard to find calibre, what makes this example so good is the amazing condition. It looks like it was bought, shot very little & properly stored with occasional oiling for decades. It has the old time shimmering polished blue that Colt used back then, rather than the dull bluing on most Official Police revolvers. There is almost no loss of finish whatsoever & all the lettering including the serial number, is very clear.

This is in original condition & definitely not refinished.

These don’t come on the market very often & this was imported from the US  & comes from a private Colt collection.
