Description

Offered for sale is this very nice 1917 manufactured Enfield Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SHT LE) which has an interesting history & is in excellent condition.

Most likely it was issued in time for WW1 & just prior to WW2 it underwent a refurb at the Lithgow factory as indicated by the numerous MA & BA markings including the date 11/38 on the stock. These are visible on both the wood & metal items replaced at Lithgow such as the front sight ears, rear sight etc.

The cartouches on the stock are clear & legible, indicating it arrived at Lithgow for refurb in November 1938 in preparation for WW2 perhaps.

All visible numbers match, including the Commonwealth number 35441 which is on the butt & also the receiver.

It can be reasonably assumed this rifle saw service in WW2 before being removed from regular Army service post war & supplied to a Cadet Unit before being sold out of service, as indicated by the markings on the stock.

The green paint was indicative of Australian Army Cadet use, most likely in the 60’s & 70’s. In addition to designating a rifle as Cadet issue, green paint indicated it was deemed safe to shoot whereby yellow paint on a Cadet rifle was an indication this rifle was deemed fit for drill purpose (DP) only & therefore not safe to fire.

Do your own research & you will know if this is for you. The condition is excellent as can be seen in the photos so please view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you send it back.
