Description

Classic Aussie made competition target rifle!

The Sportco Model 44 is a bolt action single shot rifle made in Australia specifically for long range target rifle competition & are collectable in their own right.

Known for their accuracy among the long range competition shooting community they were first released in 1968 as the Sportco Model 44 & were produced in Sportco’s Adelaide factory. Production was taken over by Omark in the 1970s & later by MAB Engineering in Brisbane in 1984.

The rifle was the mainstay of Australian full bore competition target shooting for many years, replacing war surplus .303 Lee–Enfields.

Being a purpose-built target rifle it soon showed its superiority against barreled surplus rifles.

Interestingly, the Sportco Model 44 was considered as a sniper rifle by the Australian Defence Force but not adopted, as it is single shot only & the design could not easily be changed to a repeater.

Originally just produced in 7.62×51mm (.308) as this one is & they were later available in 5.56×45mm (.223).

The barrel is fully floated (see photos) & in excellent condition plus the rifle is fitted with a Lane peep sight which is in good working order (worth around $400 on its own), with a Parker Hale front sight, all ready for heading to the range.

The RH stock is completely custom stock that has been very finely crafted to suit target and field shooter alike.

This comes with an additional extra bolt along with various other spares, see photo.

This rifle would make a great start of your next project without a big outlay & could be a great way to dip your toe in big bore shooting without spending big.

You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.
