Description

Recently imported from Europe & offered for sale is this very nice later war Kar98k made by Waffenwerke Brünn in Brno, one of Germany’s ‘conquest’ firearms manufacturers in Czechoslovakia.

This rifle retains the cleaning rod, sight hood, original sling & leather rear sight protector! Whilst the sling is original, the rear sight cover is not we fear but hey, it comes with this rifle!

In 1941 the Waffenwerke Brünn production code changed from “945” to a script “dot”. The top of the receiver ring is marked ‘dot’ over 1943 with the waffenamt between these & the left side is marked with the Nazi firing proof (Nazi Eagle or ‘Reich Adler’), the serial number & Mod. 98. Also on the receiver ring is a small & faint but clear X, indicating this was captured by the Soviets after WW2 & was one of the many which were removed to the USSR & given a complete refurbishment. To do this, the Russians would strip each rifle & parts went into a drum for later use. After refurb, rifles were reassembled using the first part which came to hand & there were forced matched with electro pencil. Usually, they were also covered with a coating of lacquer/shellac & all metal parts were roughly reblued.

The Soviets did this post war not because they needed the rifles but uncle Joe Stalin already had plans to destabilise the 3rd world & these K98’s were given to whoever the USSR thought would cause trouble for the West.

Happily, this rifle whilst undergoing the refurb, appears to have been left in the original finish.

Despite being 1943 vintage, it has had the stock changed over at some stage as it now sports a pre-war solid walnut stock. We won’t know if this was done by the Germans during the war or by the Soviets post war but is a nice stock, regardless. There are still easily visible Nazi Waffenamt markings on the stock indicating it went to the Army (H for Heer) along with the Nazi eagle.

This is a very good example of a later war K98k rifle made before the Germans began to introduce changes to production techniques to save time, materials & money which resulted in what is known as the Kriegsmodell.

The bore is excellent, shiny with lots of rifling clearly visible, so definitely a shooter!

Some collectors will turn their nose up at the Russian captured & refurbed rifles but the serious collector knows these form a part of the history of the Kar98k. Any serious collection of Kar98’s should include an RC & this example is the best we’ve seen of this collectors sub category.

We are offering this rifle as a collectable piece of military history & acknowledge the grievous atrocities committed by the Nazi regime & some of its military, particularly toward the peoples of occupied territory & the Jewish population in Europe. In no way do we condone or glorify the Nazi regime which must be remembered for the vile stain on human history that it was.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you decide to send it back.

Standard cost for shipping is $55 & all guns are sent via Startrack without insurance but we pack very well.
