Description

Genuine, Mint & matching!

Just arrived from the US in our latest shipment of collector grade vintage guns & offered for sale is this genuine Short Side Rail (SSR) sniper rifle which is the 2nd variation of the side rail mount & has the locking screws, as described on pages 20-21 in the chapter ‘Alternate Procurement’ in the bible for Kar98k research Richard Law’s book ‘Backbone of the Wehrmacht’ which describes SS use of this SSR system.  It is often overlooked that the SS had no direct line of procurement for weapons so had to make side deals with manufacturers to receive a regular supply of weaponry & ‘Alternate Procurement’ is a way of describing this. The Waffen SS were the first to utilise the SSR mounting system & were known to have a working relationship with Sauer & Sohn, the manufacturers’ of many sniper Kar98k’s from 1941 onwards, along with Steyr. To a lesser extent, the Wehrmacht utilised SSR Kar98k’s & there is no conclusive evidence where this rifle saw service, which it clearly did although the vast majority were sent to Russia.

This example was manufactured by Sauer & Son in 1941, as indicated by the ce41 stamps on the receiver ring, with all Waffenamts & proof marks correct.

Matching numbers include the barrel, the receiver, complete bolt & all rear sight components with just the floor plate & front barrel band being replaced at some time during the war which is not unusual for a rifle which would have been dragged into some well concealed places on the eastern front.

The scope is an Ajack 4×90 & is in outstanding condition, being as clear as it was 81+ years ago when it was mated to this rifle to be the destroyer of Bolsheviks.

The history of the K98 sniper rifles is extremely fascinating, as there were many variants with the SSR being overlooked by many collectors with the focus being on the turret mounting systems which were much more numerous & well known.

The bore is excellent, especially for a rifle of this age & history so this would be an excellent shooter.

There would be very few genuine Nazi sniper rifles in the hands of Australian collectors with exactly none being available to buy for the past 10 years that we can think of, let alone in this condition with mostly matching numbers so if you are on the lookout for one, be quick as this just will not last long & first in best dressed.

Do your own research & you will know if this is for you. Please view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.

We are offering this rifle as a collectable piece of military history & acknowledge the grievous atrocities committed by the Nazi regime & some of its military, particularly toward the peoples of occupied territory & the Jewish population in Europe. In no way do we condone or glorify the Nazi regime which must be remembered for the vile stain on human history that it was.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you decide to send it back.

Standard cost for shipping is $55 & all guns are sent via StarTrack without insurance.
