Description
MATCHING NUMBERS & UNDERGONE FTR!
Offered for sale is this nice example of the famous British No. 1 MkIII* .303 battle rifle which has matching numbers throughout but a poor bore.
At the end of WW1 this was sent to a Victorian CMF unit & underwent the FTR (Factory Thorough Refurbishment) involving the full strip of the rifle & replacement of any parts required along with any updates, such as removal of mag cutoff, volley sights etc. leading to it having the asterisk added on the wrist signifying the upgrades.
Confirming this is the armoury number above the S/N & 3MD on the knox along with numerous stock markings. It appears to have had the fore wood replaced with by Lithgow Small Arms with Slazenger marked wood dated 1955 & the breach shows MA, (Munitions Australia) stamps, indicating it has been worked on at Lithgow Small Arms factory at some point.
Whilst the wood looks good, it has historical pitting in some areas, including the barrel which although it retains visible rifling, has seen better days for sure.
This would still be a great ANZAC Day shooter (just don’t expect small groups) or as a nice example of a famous war rifle.
We have priced this accordingly so now is your chance to own a piece of history for a significantly low price!
We are not going to try & rate the condition out of 100 as everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the percentages should be, so we’ll let the pictures be the description. You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.
We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional.
Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.
Standard cost for shipping to metro locations is $55 & all guns are sent via StarTrack without insurance but packed very well.
