Description

This is an exemplary example of a WW1 Lithgow .303 SHT LE.

From the early Lithgow shield to the almost perfect coachwood, there is nothing to fault on this rifle. With all matching numbers & a mirror 10/10 bore, this would make an excellent service rifle shooter plus be a centrepiece of any Enfield or Lithgow collection.

Marked 2nd MD, (Second Military District) this was probably issued to the NSW Citizen Military Forces (CMF) post WW1 then we believe it was FTR’d in 1946 as indicated on the stock, plus the cocking piece is the later serrated type & there is no Unit Disc, nor has it been removed. It also has an inventory (rack or armoury) number (44399) as many rifles held by the States for their CMF Units had. After this it was presumably put into storage as it was covered in grease when we got it & boy, were we happy when we cleaned it up! The wood is almost perfect, as seen in the photos & has some nice cartouches clearly visible on it.

This would suit the most fastidious collector so if you are looking for a mint condition early Lithgow that you can shoot, this is it.
