Mint, as new!

This beautiful old school Winchester Model 70 XTR chambered in the excellent deer hunting cartridge of .270W was purchased from the original owner who bought it new in 1982 & has been a safe queen ever since. The owner told us he sighted it in & hadn’t touched it other than to maintain it since but decided to sell due to simply not using it (with a little pressure from the wife).

In support of his claim, the jewelling on the bolt body is almost untouched indicating minimal usage & of course the barrel is as close to perfect as we would like to say.

The scope is an illuminated 3-9×40 made in Japan by Hakko who were a leading scope manufacturer who made scopes for various leading scope retailers. Make no mistake, this was an expensive scope back in the day…variable (3-9 power v fixed), plus it is illuminated which was huge for the early eighties!  This one has the concentric ring reticle, which is exactly as it sounds, a dot with a ring around it & it is crystal clear!

As you’d know, the XTR is the highest grade Winchester produced & this is immediately clear because of the quality checkering on the American walnut stock & the rich, deep high gloss blued finish which is almost black!

This is priced to sell & would suit a new gun buyer for sure.  We believe this gun is of a higher quality build than the modern replacement, the Winchester Safari Express, which will cost you well over $3,300 & does not have the deep, rich blueing or the high gloss American walnut Monte Carlo stock.

We are not going to try & rate the condition out of 100 as everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the percentages should be, so we’ll let the pictures be the description. You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information.
