Description

Matching numbered, original & complete with both Volley Sights & mag cutoff!

The Magazine Lee Enfield Mk1 was a forerunner of the SHT LE & SMLE No. 1 Mk III.

The MLE Mk1& Mk1* were made between 1900-1909 & used in the Boer War in South Africa 1899-1902, with some still in use with rear echelon units during WW1.

The MLE & LE are colloquially called the Long Tom, which covers pretty much all of these prior to the SHT LE & don’t come to the market very often.

This collectable rifle was manufactured in 1900 as indicated on the wrist & is in very good condition for a 125 year old rifle as can be seen in the photos & original intact condition.

The bore is dark with visible rifling & the barrel is marked ‘MOTTY SPECIAL STEEL’ which refers to H.J. Motton, a Sydney armourer who was well known for accurising these rifles & is referenced in Ian Skennerton’s book ‘The Lee Enfield’ on pages 341 & 344.

Despite being a LE 1*, this rifle has no safety & uncommonly, it retains the magazine cut off & both volley sights, front & rear.

We are not going to try & rate the condition out of 100 as everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the percentages should be, so we’ll let the pictures be the description. You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.

We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional.

Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.

Standard cost for shipping to metro locations is $55 & all guns are sent via StarTrack without insurance but packed very well.
